Sher Shivraj Review: Impressive but long!

Producers: Nittin Keni, Pradyot Pendharkar, Anil Narayanrao Varkhade, Digpal Lanjekar and Chinmay Mandlekar and Digpal Lanjekar Writer-Director: Digpal Lanjekar Cast: Chinmay Mandlekar, Mrunal Kulkarni, Varsha Usgaonkar,Sameer Adhikari, Mukesh Rishi,Vaibhav Mangle, Mrunmay Deshpande and Ravindra Mankani Platform of Release: Theatrical Rating: By Jyothi Venkatesh After three Marathi movies like Farzand, Fatteshikast and Pawankhind, Sher Shivaraj is the fourth in Digpal Lanjekar’s series of films on the warrior Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The film Sher Shivraj brings alive the story of Shivaji Maharaj’s triumph over Afzalkhan, and the Maratha army’s meritorious win in the Battle of Pratapgad. The film is a dramatic retelling of Shivaji Maharaj (Chinmay Mandlekar) and his Maratha army’s first major triumph, at the battle of Pratapgad, which also resulted in the death of Afzalkhan, the general of the Bijapur Sultanate’s army. The story of Afzalkhan’s tyranny and his attempt to kill Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is too well known but the way the actor-director Digpal Lanjekar has tackled it, it is quite fascinating and altogether an entirely different experience. The film sets out to show how Shivaji Maharaj, despite a limited army and weapons, dares to deal with a monster-like enemy with brilliant strategies. In Bijapur’s court of Adilshahi, the mission to catch the Maratha king is announced and it’s Afzalkhan (Mukesh Rishi) who takes up the task in his hands. Afzalkhan leaves ...

Sher Shivraj (2022)

Film Review: Sher Shivraj ( screening successfully in theatres) #sanjuzzreviews #SherShivraj #SherShivrajMarathiMovie After Farzand, Fatteshikhast, Pawankhind comes Sher ShivRaj, the 4th installment chronicling the life of the great Maratha king, Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. This is a part of the planned 8 part series on the great leaders life. Directed by Digpal Lanjekar, Sher Shivraj is a dramatic retelling of the slaying Afzal Khan, the mighty Adilshahi general from Bijapur at the foothills of Pratapgad fort in Maharashtra. It shows how it is possible to beat a physically stronger adversary using proper planning with a backup plan, human psychology and keeping one's wits intact in case of any last minute surprises. Chinmay Mandlekar as Shivaji is brilliant. The guy seems to have mastered the role of Shivaji Maharaj and is at the top of his game. Mukesh Rishi as the imposing Afzal Khan is another standout performer. Other usual suspects, Mrunal Kulkarni, Sameer Dharmadhikari, Ajay Purkar, Vaibhav Mangle, Isha Keskar and Lanjekar himself as the Bahirji Naik are brilliant as usual. The background music is awesome and the songs are good, especially Shivba Raja. Comic movements added in the film also add a lot of flavor before the earth shattering climax. All in all, a well directed film and a visual treat indeed. However the adrenaline rush moments were a notch higher in Pawankhind. That doesn't take anything away from this one ... Highly recommended & everyone should watch ...

Shivraj Ashtak: Why Digpal Lanjekar's Cinematic Universe Deserves An All

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is a sacred, revered figure for Maharashtrians nay, Indians. He was not just any other king who established his kingdom by dethroning a weak incumbent. He is revered because his ideals, his actions, and vision changed the course of history. India, especially Hindus in India, will be forever be grateful to Shivaji Maharaj. Maharaj always iterated that the establishment of Hindavi Swarajya was the will of Shri (Ishwar), and that he was only the marshal of that will. Many historians have written biographies and historical accounts of Maharaj. Some of the most authentic historians among these were Gajanan Bhaskar Mehendale, V. S. Bendre, Jadunath Sarkar, V. K. Rajwade, T. S. Shejwalkar and many more. There are great scholars like Narhar Kurundkar who have put forth brilliant analyses on the life and times of Shivaji Maharaj on various platforms. I would like to quote what Narhar Kurundkar has stated about Maharaj, and will then get to the topic of this piece: Shivaji Maharaj changed the course of history. There were Hindu kings in medieval India. Their kingdoms maintained the status quo in victories and faced destruction in the loss in battle. They used to face destruction due to an invasion (Islamic Invasions in fact). Invaders used to march in their territory easily. One invasion could destroy their prosperous kingdoms. Shivaji Maharaj overthrew this legacy. He chose his battlegrounds. He kept a close watch on enemies. His kingdom expanded in vict...
