History of IPS The Indian Police Service (IPS) was established in the year 1948 as part of the All India Services Act. It was created to provide a better, more efficient and more professional system of policing in India. The IPS is a part of the Indian Civil Services, which is responsible for the administration of the country. It is headed by the Director General of Police (DGP). Eligibility for IPS Candidates who wish to join the IPS must meet certain educational and physical requirements. To be eligible for the IPS, candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree from a recognised university.
