Sanjeev Maheshwari murder case: Weapon, bullet shells will be sent for forensic examination, say police

The Lucknow police have sought to clear the air on the bullet wounds found on the body of gangster Sanjeev Maheshwari alias Jeeva. (FILE PHOTO) Asserting that there is no confusion on the number of bullets fired at the gangster, Lucknow’s joint commissioner of police (JCP), Law and Order, Upendra Kumar Agarwal on Friday said, “It is now almost clear that there were only six bullet wounds and some of the bullets caused two entry and exit points in the gangster’s body following which 16 entry and exit points were mentioned in the post-mortem report.” The recovered items like weapon and bullet shells will be sent for forensic examination to have more clarity on the bullet wounds, Agarwal said at a press conference here. “Other than the local police, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising additional director general of police (Technical) Mohit Agarwal with Lucknow’s joint commissioner of police (Crime) Nilabja Choudhury and inspector general of police (Ayodhya range) Praveen Kumar, as its other members, are also probing the matter and the truth will come out soon,” he added. Initially, the post-mortem report of Maheshwari had baffled investigators as it said the gangster’s body had 16 bullet entry and exit points. Rising temperatures in the state capital are causing a surge in heat-related illnesses, with at least 50 patients a day visiting the OPD in the medicine department alone. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the killing of gangster Sanjeev Maheshwari in a Lucknow court failed to submit its report to the state government by the 14 June deadline. The SIT had been directed to submit its findings within a week of the 7 June shooting. Allahabad HC rejects PIL for CBI probe into gangster Jeeva murder case

The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court on Tuesday rejected a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) petition seeking a CBI probe into the murder of gangster Sanjeev Maheswari alias Jeeva inside a courtroom in the Lucknow district court on June 7. A Lucknow lawyer had filed the PIL petition seeking a CBI probe into the murder case. (For Representation) A division bench of Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhayay and Justice Jaspreet Singh rejected the PIL observing that it expects the SIT to submit a proper report. Local lawyer ML Yadav had filed the PIL petition. Uttar Pradesh advocate general Ajay Kumar Mishra appeared before the court on behalf of the state government. During the hearing of the PIL, Mishra apprised the court that the state government had constituted a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the incident. “Three senior IPS officers are part of the SIT and the incident took place only six days ago,” Mishra apprised the court. The SIT is likely to submit its report to the state government in the next 48 hours. “The court has disposed of the petition with permission to again approach the court if the SIT’s probe is not satisfactory,” said advocate ML Yadav who had filed the PIL petition. Sanjeev Maheshwari alias Jeeva was shot dead inside the SC/ST court room in the district court by assailant Vijay Yadav.
