In 2022, Prime Video had said that it would double its investment in India over the next five years and launch 40 new titles in the next two years including originals, and enhance the scope of its unscripted series catalogue to explore genres such as biographies, true-crime, and investigative docudrama. Last April, Amazon Prime Video launched Prime Video Store, a transaction-video-on-demand (TVoD) offering that allows Prime subscribers as well as non-subscribers to access movies on rent. Users have to click on a separate tab on the app and website to access the pay-per-view service, with prices ranging from ₹69 to ₹499 for one-time access. The film will be available for 30 days but must be viewed within a 48-hour window. That is because Amazon is all set to hike the price of Prime membership from December 13. The price change would affect the yearly, monthly and quarterly plans that Amazon Prime currently. Amazon had confirmed the price change on its support page. As per the new price list, the yearly prime membership will cost Rs 500 more. This means that the yearly plan which is now priced at Rs 999, will cost Rs 1499 after December 13, the quarterly membership plan which is priced at Rs 329 will be priced at Rs 459 and the monthly plan which currently costs Rs 129 in India, will be priced at Rs 179. It is important to note that the existing Prime members will remain unaffected by the price hike. However, the Prime members will have to pay the new price once their existing Prime membership gets over. “Existing Prime members can continue their membership for the duration their membership plan is at the current price. However, after the price change, you can choose to renew your membership at the new price,” Amazon Prime on its website notes. The Youth membership plans on the contrary will now cost less.
